CENTENARY EXHIBITION - PORT SUNLIGHT

Grand Opening

Girlguiding Wirral, in partnership with Port Sunlight Museums, saw the official opening of their Guiding Centenary exhibition by former leader, Dorothy Procter, who is also celebrating her 100th birthday this year.

Dorothy, who will be 100 years old on 15th June this year, officially opened the exhibition ‘100 years on… Look at us now,’ at the Lyceum Building in Port Sunlight. The exhibition, which runs until 31st September, is a fun and interactive exhibition which aims to show visitors a range of Guiding memorabilia from the past 100 years as well as showcasing what Guiding is about today.

From Saturday 1st May 2010 Girlguiding Wirral will interest residents and visitors alike with a spectacular Centenary exhibition at the Lyceum Building in Port Sunlight which looks at the exciting activities that local girls and young women have taken part in over the past 100 years.

Over the years, thousands of girls and young women from Wirral have been pushing the boundaries, enjoying new experiences and having their voices heard through guiding. The exhibition will show how guiding has always been at the forefront of providing girls with modern and relevant experiences as well as celebrating the achievements of local members from the very beginnings of the movement through to the modern day.

Visitors to the exhibition can expect to hear about the impact that guiding has made on Wirral and have the opportunity to experience what it was like to be a member of Girlguiding 100 years ago, as well as today. Visitors will have the chance to try on an old uniform, see places that members of Girlguiding Wirral have visited and take part in a wide range of fun and interactive activities.

The exhibition has been partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Grant and it the biggest exhibition of Girlguiding memorabilia throughout the North-West.
